E-News 05.19.2014

I’m writing this blog post from the tour bus on our way back to Royse City. We have a great time with the 4th Grade students in Austin. Our parents were very helpful and supportive! All our teachers did a wonderful job with our students in Austin.

Here are a few pictures for the trip!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted something on the blog (it's been a nutty couple of weeks). But I wanted to be sure you had some information moving forward towards the end of the year.

Summer Professional Development
Lots of teachers have submitted their Summer PD worksheets. I’m pleased to know many of you are attending the Revolutionizing Learning in RCISD conference. The location will now be at the High School because of the size of this event. Be sure to register on the EventBrite website. The dates are August 6-7. You will need to register for BOTH days of the event (if you are attending both of course).

Along with both of these dates, several teachers will be attending PLC training on July 30-31. Also there are two other events that pays a $200 stipend. I can allow ONE teacher from each grade level to attend.

  • Writing Alignment Workshop – June 10 & 12
  • Math Alignment Workshop – July 28 & 29

Let me know if you are interested in attending and I will add you to the list.

Teacher of the Month - Last Time!
wtfm.com
Cast your vote for a NEW Teacher of the Month. The Teacher of the Month is a monthly award that recognizes a teacher who exemplifies excellence in education. The Teacher of the Month will be given a parking space in the staff parking lot for that month and a special treat.
Please select ONE teacher who exemplifies our district's vision of Empowering Students & Shaping the Future.

Staff Salary Raises
Last Monday, our School Board approved the raises for all staff salaries for next year. This is a general 2% raise for all school employees. Mr. Worthy, Mr. Webb, and Mr. Carter has figured out a way to increase our salaries for next year and hopefully for other school years in the near future. Be sure to thank them for their efforts to increase your pay. If you have specific questions about your situation, please contact Mr. Webb.

Save the Date
Mr. Snow will be at Scott Elementary next Wednesday, May 28 after school to talk about the transition from Microsoft Outlook to Google Gmail. He will also share what we can do to start moving our files to Google Drive so we can access them anywhere. Please make arrangements to attend.

Awards Programs
Below is the schedule for our Awards Programs for this year. Please be sure to communicate with parents:

Thursday, June 5th
  • 8:15am - 3rd Grade
  • 9:15am - 2nd Grade
  • 10:00am - 1st Grade
Friday, June 6th
  • 8:15am - Kindergarten Graduation
  • 10:00am - 4th Grade Awards & Celebration
Half-Day Schedule
Dr. Bright will be sending out the half-day schedule for classes at a later date. Since originally we had a teacher workday schedule as the last day of school, all staff will work until 3:30pm on both Thursday, June 5 and Friday, June 6 (3 hours for each day). These hours will makeup the time we lost from the teacher workday.

Finally, here's a video of 4th Grade student singing "Let it Go" on the bus heading back home to Royse City. You haven't truly experienced Frozen until you watch it with 40 fourth graders.
