    Important Reminders

    STAAR Testing Accommodations
It is countdown to the March test. I want to remind you all that all testing assignments and accommodations must be finalized by Friday, February 26th... this week! Decisions at this point are final. Last year we had quite a number of teachers come down with the panic and want to adjust these just a week before testing. Please let Mr. Powley and I know if any updates and changes you have in mind also for benchmark and the real test.

    Math/Reading Benchmark
3rd/4th Grade MOCK STAAR testing will be on Monday, February 29th & Tuesday, March 1st. Please remind parents we will not have visitors on campus those days.

    Other Important Documents:
    Revolutionizing Learning Conference (#RLChat)
Save the dates for this conference which will be hosted at Royse City High School again this summer. The dates are now in July! More information will be shared has it becomes available.

    NEW Information

Weekly Attendance Rate - Click HERE to see attendance by grade-level and homeroom
This last weeks attendance was 93.35% (an increase from the previous week 91.37%). Just some reminders about attendance:
    • Communicate with parents daily/weekly about individual student's attendance - express how this affects their grades & understanding of grade-level content.
    • Record their absences on student behavior sheets.
    • Highlight/circle student attendance on all progress reports/report cards BEFORE they go home.
Thanks for working with the office about student attendance and making it a priority in your classrooms.

    TeachtheVote (@TeachtheVote)
Mr. Worthy shared with us earlier this week a voting resource focused on educational issues only (www.teachthevote.org) . Check out this resource & take the time to VOTE for this election. Early Voting has begun and will continue through the rest of the week.

Matt Damon - a well-know actor - gave a speech a few years back to a group of teachers. The talk is about public education and a call to decrease standardized testing. Damon has a strong interest in this topic because his own mother is a public educator too. You can see his speech in this SHORT video below:

    MakerSpace
I loved seeing the pictures of several teachers in the MakerSpace lab last week. Thanks Jennifer Chaney & Robin Gowen for ensuring this space will be successful with our students. Also, please THANK our PTO for supporting the MakerSpace as you see them on campus and throughout the community. There's a surprise donation to the lab that will announced later this week -- say tuned!

Here's the reminders Mrs. Chaney shared with the staff this week:
    1. I will be in there with you next week to help you get your kids started. :)
    2. I have attached the schedule for your convenience.  If you need to switch times with someone, or want to go in an empty slot, feel free.  Make this space work for you.
    3. Please make sure that the kids put everything back in it's place for the next class.
    4. I have also attached a spreadsheet with the stations listed so you can make a check list.  (please make a copy before using it).
    5. HAVE FUN!
If you need anything from me, please ask.  I am more than happy to help. :)
