A Very Special Day

So today was a very special day because I had the opportunity to tell Judy Caskey GOODBYE!!!

Yes last week we received our state test scores for our campus (it was crazy with me in San Antonio and Julia Robinson in North Carolina - lots of phone calls, text messages, and emails that day). I'm so very proud of the work everyone has put into this process that created this data. Here's just a few highlights from the accountability summary:
  • Reading 80% all students (74% Hispanic | 84% White | 71% Eco Dis | 80% ELL)
  • Math 89% all students (88% Hispanic | 91% White | 87% Eco Dis | 93% ELL)
  • Writing 69% all students (63% Hispanic | 73% White | 65% Eco Dis | 60% ELL)
  • Scott Elementary was the ONLY elementary campus in the district to maintain our scores from the previous year; our Eco Dis students increased 6% from previous year in Writing; this was a targeted improvement plan goal.
  • About 50% of the 4th grade students met/exceeded progress in Reading/Math.
So basically where does that leave us for the State Accountability? Please understand the following scores are unofficial testing scores created by Eduphoria - there could be some errors in the data and should NOT be shared with parents, students, or other external stakeholders.
  • Index 1 Student Achievement - 81 (last year 79 | current year's target 60)
  • Index 2 Student Progress - 30 (last year 38 | previous year's target 30)
  • Index 3 Closing Performance Gaps - 47 (last year 45 | previous year's target 28)
  • Index 4 Postsecondary Readiness - 41 (last year 41 | current year's target 12)
Please keep in mind we have to meet Index 1 OR Index 2, Index 3, & Index 4. Also, Index 2 & 3 target scores are based on the bottom 5th percentile (they're moving targets).

In short, we're projecting to be out of the campus improvement process! Judy Caskey, targeted improvement plan, and quarterly reports are going away.

Everyone had a part of play with our campus accountability - teaching students in 3rd & 4th grade, tutoring kids after school, preparing them for the testing grade levels, encouraging each other with positive notes, snacks, etc, supporting the campus improvement process, getting parents to read with their kids, promoting a POSITIVE campus culture, helping to get kids to school so they can learn, creating engaging lessons/projects/activities that student WANT to be at school, sharing ideas/resources with each other, and praying (yes actually praying for our campus)!

I'm so very thankful to everyone and appreciate ALL the blood, sweat and tears for the last 3 years of this process... yes it has been a long process.

We'll look at this data more carefully in August when you all return, but I just wanted to say thank you! Have a wonderful summer break!!
