    EdcampAwesome
This is my FAVE type of professional development! EdCamps are UNconference events organized by groups of educators, specifically designed to create a participant driven, fun-filled day of professional development. Educators can connect with like minded individuals, collaborate ideas, brainstorm solutions to common education problems, have group discussions, and receive information that can immediately be applied in the classroom.

    NEW Information

Angela Maiers Returns to Royse City | #YouMatter
Angela Maiers (@AngelaMaiers) will be coming back to Royse City ISD next Friday, January 29th to meet with district & campus leaders about Choose2Matter (http://choose2matter.org/) and empowering students. I will be taking a few staff members to meet with Angela that afternoon in hopes to integrate the YouMatter message into our campus culture.

    Staff Meeting Next Monday
We'll be having a staff meeting next Monday, January 25th to review our testing procedures for the 4th Grade Writing Benchmark (aka Mock STAAR). Please make arrangements to attend.

TEA's School Report Card & PEG letter
Our School Report Card includes our state accountability rating and some basic information about student performance. This report MUST go home with each student with their individual report card this week.

Additionally, the Public Education Grant (PEG) letter MUST go home with each student with their report card too. The PEG letter is a part of our improvement process and permits parents to request their children to transfer to another campus. If you have any parents that have questions about this process, please refer them to me directly. Let me know if you have any questions.

    "Making Questions Flow" Article
In your mailbox, you will seen an article shared to us by Judy Caskey about student questions in the classroom. I have read this article and underlined the parts that stood out. If your short on time and simply read the underlined parts, you will get the jist of the article... of course you can go back and read more in depth at a later time. However it's an excellent article about student questioning techniques that you can use to empower students in their learning.

    Tutoring
We'll be starting our tutoring groups next week again for the Spring Semester and we need tutors. The dates are Tuesday/Thursday beginning on January 26th and is pay $20/hour. You could earn about $480 for participating in Spring tutoring this semester.

4th grade will begin with Writing Tutoring and going Jan 26-Feb 18 (8 sessions). Afterwards they will change gears and tutor Reading/Math on Feb 23-Mar 10 (6 sessions).

3rd grade will need tutors for Reading/Math on Jan 26-Mar 10 (14 sessions).

We'll take a break for the 4th Grade STAAR Writing Test on Tuesday, March 29th for a couple of weeks.

3rd/4th grade tutoring will begin again on April 5- May 3 (10 sessions).

3rd/4th grade STAAR Math/Reading Tests is on Monday, May 9th & Tuesday, May 10th
    .

Last year, we had several folks helping to supporting the 3rd/4th Grade with tutoring and I believe it helped a lot of show grow and target our high needs students. I would like to see a similar effort from all staff members to help support these students/grade levels again.

Please let me know how you can help support the tutoring efforts with our students this year.
